Juan Damion Anaya, 18, was charged with criminal damage to property, a felony, and several misdemeanors, including reckless driving and speeding.

The charges are in connection with an accident at 10:40 p.m. Monday on County Road 3050. Aztec police were called to the scene and found “a vehicle that collided headfirst into a mobile home,” according to the statement of probable cause.

Police located Anaya at the home, and once he was cleared by medics, he was questioned by law enforcement.

Anaya reportedly told the officer that he was “in an argument with his girlfriend” just before he “lost control of the vehicle, ran over a ditch and crashed into the mobile home,” according to the statement of probable cause.

He allegedly told police he was traveling at 60 mph in a 30 mph zone that included sharp curves in the roadway. He also stated that “he lost consciousness before striking the mobile home,” according to the probable cause statement.

The home was occupied by a family, and the vehicle reportedly struck an area where a child had been sleeping. The interior damage was limited to “pictures, mirrors and (miscellaneous) paintings” falling off the walls, court records state.

However, law enforcement wrote in the probable cause statement that glass shattered in the bedroom, making it “extremely dangerous for all occupants that were inside the bedroom.”

Anaya was arrested and booked into the San Juan County Detention Center. He was released on his own recognizance the next day. His preliminary hearing is set for 8:30 a.m. Oct. 10 in San Juan County Magistrate Court.
