Mr. Hansen, you come to this position with a good reputation for intelligence, hard work and, more importantly, integrity. In my experience, organizations reflect from the top down and the culture of integrity has been sorely missing at LPEA under the current board and senior leadership.
This board has consistently allowed LPEA to violate state law regarding open meeting, conduct of elections and privacy policy. They have made bylaw changes in a manner that did not comply with those same bylaws. They have failed to adhere to LPEA policies. The board has shown no consistency in their reasoning. One year we’re told bylaw changes are to conform with state law, at other times changes are made to bylaws that clearly already conform with state law. The overriding philosophy appears to be limiting the voice of members. This board refuses to answer questions and to even acknowledge receiving email communications.
According to LPEA policy, the board and employees have a duty of “honest and candid” communication. In dismissing ethics complaints against board members and senior staff, the board has defined “honest and candid” to mean, you can’t prove that the dishonesty was intentional. This board has never shown the character or integrity necessary to acknowledge mistakes and apologize. This is the board you now work for. The open question is, what integrity LPEA will demonstrate under your leadership? Good luck.
