100 years ago: “Elaborate programs inspired by the Easter-tide were rendered at the churches. The day was ideal and the services were more largely attended than for many months. In the afternoon, the streets were thronged with people clad in the elegant new Easter toggery, and the array gave the town quite a metropolitan air.”
50 years ago: “Durango Jaycees awarded their highest award, the William Lovelace award, to Reef Egger as the most outstanding jaycee for 1965-1966.”
25 years ago: “Marine Corps Sgt. Mike Kennell returned from Operation Desert Storm just in time to celebrate his daughter Alisha’s first birthday. Kennell hadn’t seen Alisha or his wife, Evelyn, for more than 11 months. Kennell was deployed to Saudi Arabia in August where he served with the MWSS 272 motor transport.”
