100 years ago: A classified wanted advertisement read: “Family driving horse and light buggy and saddle; must be a bargain. Apply at this office.”
75 years ago: “Despite the handicaps of a late, wet spring and the ‘recession,’ Jesse I. Nusbaum, superintendent of Mesa Verde National Park, reports that during the past three days the number of people going through the park compared to the same period last year.”
50 years ago: “Dr. John F. Reed, president of Fort Lewis College, told faculty, students and staff that the new college program leading to a bachelor’s degree had been given preliminary accreditation by the North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools. Reed explained that final accreditation can come only after the program can be measured by its results.”
25 years ago: “Joyce Yeager, entering her Double Delight hybrid tea rose, was selected Queen of the Show at the Four Corners Rose Society’s 17th annual Rose Show at the Durango Mall. Yeager’s rose is a cream color with a raspberry-red border. Yeager, of Durango, said this was the first time she has entered a rose contest.”
