100 years ago: “H. T. Henderson, president of the Henderson Engineering Co., who recently returned from a five month tour of the important commercial cities of the United States considers from a financial standpoint Durango people should be content with their lot. Not one place, save in the steel manufacturing towns, did he find conditions better and in the majority of places not so good. In the steel towns, the foreign demand for wares is so great that things are just booming.”
75 years Ago: An advertisement for Miracle Whip read, “Millions prefer this ‘flavor that is different.’ It’s a skillful cross between mayonnaise and old-fashioned boiled dressing, smoother, fluffier, more delicious. Try Miracle Whip – soon! Miracle Whip contains more – far more – of the costly ingredients!”
50 years ago: The following appeared on the Herald’s “Women’s Page”: “Black bean soup is traditionally served with slices of lemon and wedges of hard-cooked egg, but some tradition-breakers insist that fluffs of sour cream dusted with freshly-ground nutmeg really do justice to this good soup.”
25 years ago: “Ed Kutzleb, retiring superintendent of schools for District 9-R, was toasted and roasted at a dinner at the Red Lion Inn by members of School District 9-R board, administration, teachers and friends as people recalled his 20 years of service.”
