And the West is History

100 years ago: “A large company of friends were at the depot to bid farewell to Mrs. William Ross, nee Mollie Logan, who left for Salida to join her husband. We all trust the little lady will find as many loyal friends in the new home as she is leaving behind in the old.”

75 years Ago: “Apparently started by small boys who were smoking or playing with fire and fanned by a wind, flames damaged three wagon boxes stored by Leslie Burnett on a vacant lot east of Park School.”

50 years ago: “Visits during May of this year at Mesa Verde National Park numbered 18,448 in contrast to 16,323 during May of 1962. The total number of visits for 1963 was 34,554 compared to 29,394 last year counted through May 31.”

25 years ago: The Gaslight Twin, 102 Fifth St., was showing “Crocodile Dundee II” starring Paul Hogan. The billing read, “The world’s favorite adventurer is back for more.”
