100 years ago: “A town plat of Griffith has just been completed by Wigglesworth and Skoog, county engineers, for J.A. Laughren to be filed with the board of county commissioners. Laughren has platted 6 acres, including 2 acres of his homestead, and will put the lots on the market.”
75 years ago: “C. W. McLain, coach of the Fort Lewis college Aggies, advises that in spite of the inclement weather the sod field at the college is in fine shape and will be OK for Saturday’s football game between the Aggies and the Western State freshmen.”
50 years ago: “The fate of the VCA tailings pile was the reason for a meeting attended by Basin Health Unit, Colorado State Health Depart., U.S. Public Health Service, VCA and city personnel. ... The group concluded that the State Health Department would outline ways that Durango could handle small amounts of the tailings for fill purposes.”
25 years ago: “Congress gave final approval to a military construction appropriations bill that allocates $1 million for a new National Guard Armory in Durango. ... The Colorado Legislature also has funded the armory. It has authorized $1 million in matching money for the Durango project. The Durango armory will be built in Bodo Industrial Park on land donated by the city and county.”
