100 years ago: A sample of whorl milk weed, the presumed cause of sudden death of many sheep in Dolores County, was on display in the window of the Durango Exchange as a warning for area sheepmen.
75 years ago: A message to “seekers after gaiety” said, “Elks and their ladies will cavort at the Elks club from 9 p.m. until every one goes home or drops from exhaustion. A midnight lunch will be served and there will be favors and noisemakers. Dancing will be to the music of Bob Wegher’s orchestra.”
50 years ago: Snow showers were, again, forecast for the Durango area, according to Walter Rea at the La Plata County Air Field.
25 years ago: Hesperus Ski Area boasted a 32-inch base and packed-powder conditions.
