100 years ago: A classified advertisement read, “Wanted – Boy to do soda fountain and janitor work; with some experience and not afraid of work. No booze or cigarettes. Good wages, permanent position to right party. Address Box 228, Mancos.”
75 years ago: “Fire of unknown origin completely destroyed the Black flour mill at Ignacio. The flames burned so fast that the building and its contents were consumed in 30 minute. The mill was located just outside the city limits of Ignacio, south of town on the highway. The mill was one of Ignacio’s landmarks and had been in operation for the past 20 years.”
50 years ago: “Diamond Circle Theatre players played to 6,000-plus more people this summer than they did last.”
25 years ago: “A Florida business that operates in a town where 44 percent of the residents are millionaires is relocating to Durango because of a labor shortage. Automotive Production Manufacturers plans to be housed in a new building in Bodo Industrial Park by the end of this year. ... APM makes electric eyes that are used by large companies and individuals. The devices are used to count products in assembly lines or on home doors as surveillance.”
