100 years ago: “Definite steps toward the erection of a new and costly high school building in the city were made when the local lodge of Elks donated to school district No. 9 the three lots on the corner of 12th Street and Second Avenue. No monetary consideration passed the only conditions of the gift to the school district being that the lots be used for school purposes and that the board be able to obtain such adjoining lots as are necessary for the erection of the building.”

75 years ago: “An ‘exchange’ exhibit of 20 photographs is on display at Pennington Studio. The pictures taken by members of the Blookington, Illinois, Camera Club, are of a wide range of subjects and include several that are really good.”

50 years ago: “And still it rained and or snowed. The precipitation for 1965 by April 7 at 8 a.m. climbed well above the 67-year average for the year through the entire month of April. The 67-year average is 6.40 inches. So far this year, the area has received 6.71 inches of moisture. In 1964 by this date, the measurement only was 4.34 inches.”

25 years ago: “The board of directors for the Durango Area Chamber Resort Association announced that they have eliminated the position of director of tourism from the organization to free up an estimated $40,000 for marketing and research.”
