100 years ago: “While snow slides are delaying trains on the Silverton and Southern branches, the Farmington train has been getting in regularly in time for supper, but yesterday a mud slide was encountered on the Red Apple that added about six hours to the running time. ... Slides, of whatever nature, seem to be quite stylish just now.”
75 years ago: “The city of Durango asks that all sidewalks be shoveled on Main Avenue and on the side streets between Main and Second by midnight tonight so the plows can pick up the surplus snow.”
50 years ago: This appeared in the section titled Silverton News, “What a wonderful difference the fresh snow brought about. Main event of course is the skiing is good on Kendall Mountain. Other reasons for rejoicing are that the town looks clearer, water supply should be better, and the danger of frozen pipes less.”
25 years ago: “A fast and furious snowstorm proved not ‘snow fine’ for travelers. The wet, heavy snow closed the Durango-La Plata County Airport, caused the crash of a single-engine airplane at Animas Air Park and was responsible for a half-dozen automobile fender-benders in town.”
