And the West is History

100 years ago: Mr. Jerry Griggs had tired of his friends and “delights of the shining mahogany” after acquiring his ranch home, located down Long Hollow on the lower La Plata.

75 years ago: Rotarians and guests would meet for dinner at the Strater Hotel in the evening, “having shifted their regular Friday meeting to view a special showing of movies by George W. Olinger of Denver.”

50 years ago: It may have been early March, but spring was in town on Saturday and a “convertible with the top down carrying a handsome young couple was reported on the highway north of town.”

25 years ago: A Fort Lewis College woman threatened at knife-point by an early-morning intruder in her bedroom last April testified her assailant “unquestionably was defendant Ricky G. Miller.” The defense contended it was a case of mistaken identity.
