100 years ago: A trio of genial commercial men, E.H. Kennedy, Harry M. Baugh and Waldo Ransom, who were “very popular with local society folk,” hosted a dinner at the Strater the previous evening.

75 years ago: Durango had three full-time policemen, one police car, two taxi cabs, five firemen, 105 Boy Scouts, 15 doctors, two hospitals and 11 sheriffs/deputies.

50 years ago: U.S. Department of Agriculture plant pest control officials conducted fall adult grasshopper surveys in Colorado that showed several areas of cropland were host to infestations.

25 years ago: A Cessna 177 private airplane experienced engine problems and was forced to make an emergency landing in a field shortly after taking off from Durango-La Plata County Airport, en route to Wichita Falls, Texas. None of the four people on board were injured during the landing.
