100 years ago: “James O’Driscoll received quite painful bruises on the chest this morning when he attempted to aid Allan Moore in stopping his runaway team. While Mr. Moore, the Perins stage driver, was performing an errand in the vicinity of the Savoy, his horses became frightened and started to run away. The horses knocked Mr. O’Driscoll down and threw him under the wheels of the loaded wagon.”

75 years ago: “The Taylor Raymond apartments in the 800 block of Main Avenue have just recently been remodeled and redecorated to conform to plans and ideas for such type of apartments elsewhere. The cost of the modernization project of the apartments has exceeded $2,500.

50 years ago: “For the second successive year, Durango has been selected as the site for the Miss Rodeo Colorado contest, according to an announcement by Cheddy Thompson, International Rodeo management director for Colorado. The contest will be held Aug. 5 and 6 in conjunction with the 1st annual Navajo Trails Fiesta.”

25 years ago: “Four bidders Tuesday will explain to members of the Durango Area Chamber Resort Association their proposals to provide a central reservations system for area lodgings and attractions. The DACRA board will make a decision by June 20 with hopes the new system can be functioning by the time DACRA’s current contract with Purgatory-Durango Central Reservations expires at the end of June.”
