And the West is History

50 years ago: “James Fresquez, executive assistant to the governor, and Hugh Warder, local government analyst in the division of local government, returned to Denver today after setting in motion a survey of county housing facilities. The survey began this morning in Santa Rita. Bayfield and Ignacio will be next. The city building inspector is furnishing information about substandard housing in town. Fresquez and Warder suspect that the findings will show a shortage of low-cost housing and say that selection of a housing authority is one way of dealing with the problem.”

25 years ago: The La Plata County Board of Commissioners met with several local architects and planners Monday evening to see if there is local interest in developing a master plan for a new fairgrounds on Ewing Mesa. Last week, Planning Director Rusty Bonser recommended the commission consider amending its contract with Bullock, Smith and Partners, who conducted a site analysis of the existing fairgrounds in July. Most of the local architects at the meeting said they weren’t necessarily interested in the master plan for the fairgrounds, considering the tight time constraints involved.”
