75 years ago: Ernest and Wilber Hubbs of Durango, formerly of Cortez, and William Granger of Ignacio were accepted by the local Navy recruiting office. Mickey Brennan applied but was rejected due to physical disability. James Parmenter left his job at the Strater to enlist around the same time.
50 Years Ago: Two children, ages 7 and 9, were caught peddling Christmas tree light bulbs they stole from the Gordon Burnett residence, 2000 Crestview Drive. They were sent home to their parents “for the time being.”
25 years ago: Chapman Hill opened for skiing at 9 a.m. for the first day of the season. Community members from across town came to sled, tube and take some turns on the ski slope.
