And the West is History

100 years ago: “C.F. Werner and his wife and Miss Harwood, of Ignacio, were motor visitors in the city coming over especially to take in the performance of ‘The Honorable Gussie’ at Red Men Hall by the Harriah Ingraham Stock Company.”

75 years ago: “Under the direction of H.A. Sabin, dairyman at Fort Lewis College, extensive improvements have been made in the college dairy. Health standards in the herd have been raised to the point where practically all bacterial traces of disease have been eliminated.”

50 years ago: “A drop in temperature discouraged the melting snow somewhat and the Animas River dropped more than half a foot, in dramatic comparison with rivers and streams in the Denver area which are flooding.”

25 years ago: “For the second time in two years, it appears Durango will have no Fourth of July fireworks show. There isn’t a safe place to shoot off aerial fireworks. And even if a safe location becomes available in the next two weeks, which appears unlikely, no one has planned a show.”
