100 years ago: G.S. Craig, a foreman for Sunnyside Mine and Silverton resident of 16 years, was put in charge of “a coach load” of 38 people, which included miners, carpenters and laborers who would be employed for three months.

75 years ago: It was announced that Lt. Charles Clay, son of Mr. and Mrs. J.A. Clay of Salt Lake City, was named among the class of officers who received commissions in Florida. Clay was with the “Army Air Force.”

50 years ago: Walter Mason, Durango School District 9-R superintendent, was hospitalized at Mercy after he suffered a heart attack the night before in his home.

25 YEARS AGO: A new state law that allowed people to vote before Election Day resulted in about one-third of registered voters in Colorado casting their ballots early.
