100 years ago: “That the Mesa Verde National Park will be opened to automobiles on June 20, is the advice received here by James Jarvis of the local Studebaker Agency from Superintendent Rickner at Mancos.”
75 years ago: “Five Redmesa men pleaded guilty to charges that they had on two occasions used explosives on the La Plata River in getting fish. Each was sentenced to pay a $25 fine and costs or spend 10 days in jail. Up to press time none had paid and all of them were in the county ‘hoosegow.’”
50 years ago: A classified advertisement read: “Looky here! Price $15,000, includes very large garage, 3-bedrooms, livable floor plan, fenced back yard. Near Needham School. We’re as near as your phone. For the best in homes ... Johnson Real Estate.”
25 years ago: “Mercy Medical Center will open the Mercy Preschool and Child Care Center July 5. Mercy is the first business in this part of the state to open a preschool and infant/toddler childcare center for its employees. With 400 on the payroll, the hospital is one of the largest employers in the county.”
