100 years ago: “With the increasing activities at Cave Basin, and the corresponding activities at Ignacio and Bayfield, a few of the merchants in this city have awakened to the state of affairs that gives those two towns the cream of the business that comes from the outside destined to the new mining camp – the mining camp that is predicted by expert mining men will overshadow all other camps in the state of Colorado this summer.”
75 years ago: The following appeared in the section titled Sunnyside News: “A. L. Brown vaccinated and branded his young cattle, and started to the hills with them this past week. He was assisted in the work by Lawerence Roberson.”
50 years ago: “D&RGW passengers, 325 of them, had a wait of less than an hour before the departure of the historic narrow gauge train. And it was all due to modern gadgets. The railroad’s diesel switch-engine used to save wear and tear on the aging steam engines, was derailed in the yard. This meant that the cars, which have to be reversed in direction prior to the start of the morning run, had to be taken to a Y south of the yard and turned around one at a time.”
25 years ago: “A retired U.S. Air Force budget and finance worker will assume the helm of the La Plata County Finance Department. Wayne Bedor, who recently retired from 20 years service in the Air Force in Colorado Springs, was the unanimous choice of the county commissioners.”
