100 years ago: “The Ladies’ Aid Society of the First Presbyterian Church gave a supper to raise funds for the renovation of the manse. The Rev. Daly of Mancos expects to take up his permanent residence in Durango in the near future. He will have the postrate of the Presbyterian Church.”
75 years ago: “In a session which lasted from 7:30 until 11 p.m. the Durango City Council (1) Adopted a resolution calling for the organization of a city planning commission; (2) voted to start work on a new storm sewer project in south Durango ... and (8) talked about the howling dogs in the city pound and then wearily adjourned.”
50 years ago: Ignacio – “Two new members – one brand new and the other new for the coming term – were elected to the Southern Ute Tribal Council. The new member is Ralph Cloud who will be serving his first term on the council. ... His sister, Sunshine Smith, is the other new member. Smith will serve her third term.”
25 years ago: “Animas-La Plata water project supporters hailed a U.S. House vote as a major victory while awaiting similar action in the U.S. Senate. The House voted 249-146 to approve a water rights agreement for the Southern Ute and Ute Mountain Ute tribes that depends on construction of the $380 million water project proposed for southwest of Durango.”
