100 years ago: Classified lost-and-found notices included, “Man’s dark coat with flashlight in pocket between Durango and Dick Gaines ranch. Address Gabe Love, Rockwood, or Democrat.”

75 years ago: “The weather man” was being “tough on gardens,” with 33-degree temperatures at night and highs of 87 during the day.

50 years ago: The fire danger in “the entire San Juan National Forest” was “very high.” The Forest Service urged picnickers and campers to be “extremely careful with fire of any kind.”

25 years ago: Someone reported two “hippies” who started a fire outside of La Plata County Courthouse, 1060 East Second Ave. They were found to be burning “sacred sage.” Police told them not to do it again inside the city limits.
