100 years ago: “Dan Egger, paragraphing editor of the keen Bayfield Blade, spent the day in the city bulldozing his friends.”

75 years ago: “A pickup truck rushing downgrade crashed through a flock of sheep on U.S. Highway 160 west of Durango, killing 10 outright and crippling seven others.”

50 years ago: “Filming of a TV pilot series is scheduled to start in the Durango-Silverton area and is expected to last about two weeks. Filming will be by Selmur Productions, producers of the “Combat” series, and will star Dale Robertson in a series entitled ‘Diamond Jim.’ The story is about Diamond Jim Brady and will be shown on the ABC television network.”

25 years ago: Maria’s Bookshop, 928 Main Ave., was hosting a book signing with author and Durango High School teacher Will Hobbs. Hobbs was signing his new book Bearstone.”
