50 YEARS AGO: “‘Unloaded’ Gun Kills Cortez Boy: An 18 year-old Cortez boy was parked on the side of the Dairy Queen drive-in on Main Street with a girl and was playing with a .22 caliber pistol last night. At around 10:15 p.m., he told the girl the gun was not loaded and said ‘Watch.’ He then placed the gun to his head and pulled the trigger. The boy died at 1:23 a.m. at Southwest Memorial hospital.”
