100 years ago: A classified advertisement read: “Furnished Rooms – $8 per month. Steam heat, free bath, electric light, telephone. All outside rooms. La Plata Rooming House, 10th and Main Sts.”

75 years ago: “Voters of Durango will have a real choice in tomorrow’s municipal election. Though the voters can’t go very wrong, because the whole field is one of very credible ‘hosses,’ there is of course a difference, and it is to be sincerely hoped that the voters will sufficiently appreciate the points involved in the race and get out and vote.”

50 years ago: “The travel trend for March at Mesa Verde National Park continued upward. During March of this year 4,400 visitors entered the park. Last year, March visitors totaled 3,700. The increase represents 19 percent.”

25 years ago: “Amoco Production Co. will scale back its natural-gas drilling program in La Plata County this year as a result of budget cuts for exploration and production,. Amoco will drill only 37 wells here this year, one-fourth the 150 wells projected.”
