100 years ago: “A large force of men went up to the head of East Mesa ditch for the purpose of making a dam to turn more water into the ditch. The crops are very dry and unless water is obtained very soon there will be no second cutting of alfalfa.”
75 years ago: “A storm sewer project, costing $16,569 in federal funds, has been approved for Durango by Washington officials of the Works Progress Administration. The work will include storm sewers, manholes, junction boxes and catch basins for street drainage purposes south of 6th Avenue and west of 8th Avenue in Durango.
50 years ago: The following appeared in the section titled Florida Mesa News, “The Chuck Walling Repair Shop is open full time at the Walling home south of the airport cutoff road.”
25 years ago: “The Durango City Council agreed to spend $3,000 to help move Durango’s oldest structure, the Joy Cabin, to the Animas School Museum.”
