75 years ago: This item appeared in the section titled Fort Lewis News, “Mr. and Mrs. C.W. McLain and family journeyed to Farmington. While Mr. McLain was visiting prospective students, Mrs. McLain and the children enjoyed a picnic.”
50 years ago: This item appeared in the section titled Gem Village News, “Summer is a busy time for all Coloradoans, and for the Villagers. Many here are entertaining company, and the business houses report large volumes of interest displayed by the numerous tourists that manage to notice our little community on the Navajo Trail.”
25 years ago: “Police suspect cult activity in the arson and burglary of Christ the King Lutheran Church on Florida Road. Two boys, ages 16 and 17 – one of whom told police he is a Satanist – are in custody after being captured by police shortly after the incident. ... Police and the Durango Fire Department responded and found that books had been set on fire and Satanic graffiti had been written on the walls.”
