100 years ago: “A deal was consummated whereby Clarence Lashmet of Silverton becomes the owner of 160 acres of good farming land in the Ignacio country. He purchased the tract from Dr. B.J. Ochsner. The consideration is given as $3,450. Lashmet will spend a few days here directing operations on his new property.”
75 years ago: “Durango’s one-day goodwill tour around the ‘loop’ met warm reception at nearly every town visited on the 253-mile route. The motor caravan consisted of 25 cars and 102 people.”
50 years ago: “The present water shortage on the East Coast is certainly not a nationwide problem. The amount of precipitation in Durango this month (1.90 inches) is almost thrice that of last July (0.69). And the total ’65 precipitation in this area so far is 13.56 inches, 7.37 inches ahead of last year’s first seven months. So the fact that Durango has been blessed with 15 days of rain this month and New York has remained high and very dry should not really bother anyone.”
25 years ago: “A three-company consolidation and new money from owners and United Bank of Denver will provide a new beginning for Purgatory Ski Resort. An agreement reached between bondholders, United Bank and Purgatory’s owners will allow Durango Ski Corp., T H Land Company and Purgatory Development Company to streamline their resources into one entity, tentatively named the Purgatory, Durango Ski Company.”
