And the West is History

100 years ago: “Complaint made to the city authorities by a Northside mail carrier regarding the behavior of a belligerent dog.”

75 years ago: “Fort Lewis College will celebrate its 25th annual Visitor’s Day Aug. 1. It will also be the fifth annual 4-H Club Field Day.” The day would include “the ever-popular ladies” nail-driving contest.

50 years ago: “Mrs. C. Wayne Sellon, a house guest of Mr. and Mrs. David Morrow, was invited to coffee. She and her husband built the Childers’ home when it was one of the first homes on Crestview. She was anxious to see the many changes that had come about.”

25 years ago: “Arson investigators have been called to the scene of a blaze that damaged the Valiant Chair Co. in Bayfield. The fire was the second in three years to strike a chair-manufacturing company owned or managed by Jay Wannamaker.”
