And the West is History

100 years ago: “The county highways were sufficiently dry to let several visitors from neighboring towns get out for home. Some went amply loaded with limburger and suds in case of a wash out and consequent delay on the way.”

75 years ago: “A shortage of stenographers and typists now exists in several government offices and the civil service commission has notified Bob Arnold, local civil service examiner, that examinations will be held soon to fill these positions.”

50 years ago: “Leonard W. Tregillus is a person who turned a hobby into a valuable contribution. Tregillus has a doctorate in chemistry and has always been interested in photography. He is now working in the research department of Eastman Kodak company, and it is his process that is being used in the Mariner films. Tregillus is married to the former Constance Root, daughter of Mrs. Albert Root and sister to Mrs. Myron Broomell, of Durango.”

25 years ago: “They may not seem cute and cuddly at first, but miniature pigs are quickly becoming the pet of the ’90s. Kris Bryant, an internationally known breeder of Vietnamese pot-bellied pigs, recently moved her Paradise Pigs business to Durango.”
