100 years ago: Dolores rancher Burt Parker was in Durango “on a combined business and pleasure trip.”

75 years ago: People between the ages of 18 and 19 in La Plata County were required to register in the fifth selective service registration at the local draft office, which would be an estimated 150 to 200 registrants.

50 years ago: A Cortez police officer was fired for using “undue force in restraining an Indian prisoner at the city jail” after the prisoner reportedly struck him in the face. The police chief commented, “In my opinion, he used more force than was necessary in restraining a prisoner.”

25 years ago: A homemade bomb in a soda bottle exploded inside a mailbox overnight in the 2000 block of West Third Avenue.
