50 years ago: Bargain-minded women travelers will soon be able to fly for half fare over a large area of the West. A budget-stretching 25-day round-trip “Ladies Fare” has been proposed by Frontier Airlines to the Civil Aeronautics Board.
25 years ago: Twenty-four turkeys, 150 pounds of potatoes, numerous cans of sweet potatoes, 9 gallons of corn and 10 gallons of gravy and “Lord knows how many pies” fed 414 people at the annual Durango Thanksgiving Dinner at the La Plata County Fairgrounds. The Extension Building looked like a regular mess hall , where people of all ages stood in line for the free fixin’s.
