And the West is History

100 years ago: Mr. and Mrs. D.C. Walker of Red Mesa, C. Virgil of Posta, Alva Short and Mike Conroy of Sunnyside, J.E. Locke of Breen, Thomas Eason and Myrl Pond of Kline, S.M. Hanger of Riverside, W.G. Swire of Ignacio, Mrs. Samuel Ent of Hesperus, Mrs. W.R. Mason of Lodo, Mr. and Mrs. Elton Apperson of Salt Creek, and C. Brooker of Lower La Plata were among the list of holiday shoppers in Durango.

75 years ago: Downtown Durango stores hosted extended hours until 8 p.m., providing locals with two extra hours to squeeze last-minute holiday shopping into. Many shoppers took advantage of the extra time, which benefited the overall local economy.

50 Years Ago: Some of the deer who congratulated themselves on coming through the hunting season alive spoke too soon. Motorists are thinning their numbers. The patrol this morning reported four recent accidents which involved deer, and one in which a cow elk was killed.
