75 years ago: “Two government engineers flew up and down the Animas valley this week inspecting flood conditions as they appear from the air. Any funds for alleviation of the flood conditions in the Animas valley will require a special appropriation by Congress.”

25 years ago: “Fort Lewis College’s Chemistry and Biology Departments will receive $800,000 from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute to improve undergraduate research programs, attract minorities to scientific studies and conduct outreach programs in area schools and community colleges during the next five years. The $800,000 grant is one of the largest single awards the college has received for its academic programs in its 30-year history as a four-year liberal arts college.”
