100 years ago: M.C. Patterson arrived in Durango with “a load of hogs” that he gave to local produce dealers.

75 years ago: The shortage of bottle caps forced beer manufacturers to switch from the familiar 12-ounce bottle to the “half-gallon family or one-man bottle size.”

50 years ago: Colorado Mountain Rangers would select their queen at the annual contest. Girls were required to be local, between ages 16 and 22 and unmarried to enter the contest.

25 years ago: A 51-year-old man “flipped on his bike” in front of City Hall and broke his arm.
