25 years ago: The quality of roads and the costs to maintain them had become an important issue in La Plata County, and county officials were pressured to find a solution. To that end, county commissioners asked for $1.38 million in grant funding at a state advisory committee meeting. According to J. Paul Brown, county commission chairman, the chances of receiving the funds were “very good.”
