50 Years Ago: An old, unoccupied store building at Santa Rita “burned to the ground” in the morning, and volunteers prevented the fire from spreading. It was the third time the building had caught fire. Children threw rocks at the volunteers as they attempted to extinguish the flames, striking one of them. They responded by pushing the children back with streams of water.

25 Years Ago: A total of 239 students received degrees at the Fort Lewis College commencement ceremony, making it the second annual midyear graduation. Only 75 out of the 239 showed up adorned in cap and gown to walk across the stage and be handed their diploma.
