100 years ago: J.W. Ralston of Cedar Hill “topped the market” when he sold a car of hogs to the Graden Mercantile Co. The hogs were purchased at $18.25 per hundred and Ralston “copped off” a total of $3,074.20 for his shipment.
75 years ago: A man came into town with a “team and buggy” to do some shopping but couldn’t find a hitching rack or anything solid to tie his transportation to while he was inside the store.
50 years ago: Consulting geologist Charles R. Butler was the first passenger to board a commercial flight in more than a week at the airport, then called La Plata Field. The airport closed for a week while the runway was lengthened.
25 years ago: Someone reported that a potbelly pig was being abused in the east 400 block of Second Street. Upon arrival at the scene, officers realized the animal was just very noisy when it was being put inside for the night.
