100 years ago: “It was quite evident from the autos, buggies and saddle horses leaving he baseball grounds at Bayfield Sunday afternoon that the people of the east end of the county love the game of baseball. The Bayfield boys played with ginger and enthusiasm.”

75 years ago: “The new ‘El Rancho Tavern’ cocktail lounge will open tonight at 8 o’clock. The lounge is located in the rear of the Dutch Lunch on the corner of 10th and Main, with entrance on 10th Street.”

50 years ago: “The Durango Ski Corporation has announced that starting June 1, the chair lift at Purgatory will operate daily for scenic rides between the hours of 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Tickets may be purchased at the base of the chair lift at $1.50 for adults, 75 cents for children age 6 to 12; children 5 years and under may ride for free.”

25 years ago: “The balance sheet at the La Plata County Hospital District is in the black once again and the district was awarded a sizeable grant from the Colorado Trust, board members learned at their meeting Tuesday. The district’s year-to-date balance topped $45,000 April 30, a figure reflecting adjustments from the $118,000 year-to-date profit reported at the end of March.”
