100 years ago: “Charles Craig the celebrated painter of western life and an authority on Indian lore, may receive the bulk of the purely personal effects of Ignacio, Ute chief who died at a reservation in Southern Colorado several weeks ago. The artist received a letter from Ignacio’s grandson, giving details of the old chief’s death and saying that he believed it can be arranged for Craig to obtain the collection of historically interesting and important relics of the famous chieftain.”
75 years ago: “The will of Mrs. Lena Stoiber who died in Italy nearly four years ago has just been admitted to probate in the Denver County court. It is estimated that the estate will still net over a million dollars. It was at one time many times that amount. A lucky strike in the Silverton country was its base. Many San Juan people still remember Mrs. Stoiber the famous bonanza queen of Silverton’s heyday.”
50 years ago: “Preliminary registration figures indicate Fort Lewis College will have about 200 more persons on campus this winter trimester than in the same term a year ago. Eight hundred fifty nine persons registered in regular college courses.”
25 years ago: “A Fort Lewis College graduate hopes to strengthen ties between Japan and Colorado with the first overseas alumni association office for fellow FLC graduates. David Wagner, a Colorado businessman living and working in Japan, has started a Fort Lewis College Alumni Association chapter in Tokyo.”
