100 years ago: “William H. Hughs and wife of the La Platas, came into town and bought a new standard mower from Sam Johnson, of the San Juan Corral, to use in putting up their alfalfa crop, which they will commence cutting next week. They report the alfalfa on the ranch is just about two feet high.”

75 years ago: “Cards at Electra is the pleasant diversion being enjoyed by guests of Mrs. A.L. Burnett who is entertaining her bridge club there.”

50 years ago: “The temporary Columbus bridge now is open to traffic, La Plata County commissioners have announced, and motorists now can drive all the way from Bayfield to Vallecito on the pavement. A permanent bridge is under construction.”

25 years ago: The Mann Gaslight Twin, 102 Fifth St., was showing “Another 48 Hours” starring Eddie Murphy and Nick Nolte. The billing read, “The boys are back in town.”
