100 years ago: “With the past few warm days the snow in the mountains is being rapidly turned into water and as a result the Animas is showing a desire to get above the former high-water mark of the season. The Florida is also coming up and the water now running into the city reservoirs is very muddy.”
75 years ago: “The time of arrival of the Rio Grande train from the east in Durango will be changed beginning next Sunday and thereafter train No. 115 from Alamosa and other eastern points will arrive at 4:05 p.m. – instead of at 5:55 p.m. as at present.”
50 years ago: The Rocket, the old drive-in, outdoors movie theater on U.S. Highway 550-160 in Durango, was showing the movies, “For Those Who Think Young” and “Good Neighbor, Sam.”
25 years ago: “The school board unanimously voted to appoint Stan Dunlap as the new principal at Miller Middle School, leaving a vacancy still to be filled at Smiley Middle School.”
