100 years ago: “With her clothing burned from her body and the flesh of her arms and back literally cooked by 24,000 volts of electricity from a high tension line of the Western Colorado Power Co. a 12-year-old girl was brought to Ochsener hospital in this city from Rockwood with what was believed to be fatal injuries. This morning the little girl was resting better than she had through the day, and it is thought may have a possible chance at recovery.”
75 years ago: “Supper outdoors formed a novel and a pleasant introduction to the bimonthly games of the Thursday Evening Card Club. Members convened a top Reservoir Hill with delicious contributions to a potluck supper. Later the party adjourned to the home of Dr. and Mrs. A. LaBurnett where whetted by a cool summer air, bidding took a ‘bullish’ turn and the usual games assumed an unusual excitement.”
50 years ago: “The nationally known Holiday Inn motel groups wants to establish an 80-unit motel in Durango with restaurant , lounge, swimming pool and meeting facilities for groups of 80 to 100.”
25 years ago: “Campers and hikers can pick up the telephone and call for the latest trail reports and campground information thanks to a new recreation hotline sponsored by Pine Needle Mountaineering, the San Juan National Forest Association and the La Plata County Sheriff’s Office.”
