100 years ago: “Otto Mears was a passenger enroute from Denver to Silverton on the Eastern train last night. Agent Brown declares that Mr. Mears does not look a day older than he did 20 years ago. He has lead an active and useful life, the ‘pathfinder.’”

75 years ago: “The Durango High School Demons won their first football game of the 1938 season when they easily defeated the Center High School team 20-2.”

50 years ago: “A quarter-million dollars changed hands at the Basin Livestock Commission Co. feeder sale. Fifty consignors from La Plata, Archuleta and Montezuma counties put 1,501 steers and heifers into the sale ring, and saw them dispersed to Iowa, Kansas, Los Angeles, Phoenix and other localities.”

25 years ago: An advertisement read: “The Company presents ... Foxfire by Susan Cooper and Hume Cronyn. A play with song – ‘A staged ballad, an earthy slice of Americana nestled among familiar American tunes. A memorable evening.’ – Charlie Langdon.”
