And the West is History

100 years ago: “The city indebtedness was reduced to the extent of $1,000 when City Treasurer Hanno paid off a funding bond in that amount. This is the second bond of $1,000 that has been paid off since the first of May. The city’s indebtedness now amounts to $295,000.”

75 years ago: “While there was an exceptionally light vote in the primary election and there seemed to be little interest in the county contests, there was more to it than met the eye. That was proved when 160 Durango people called in to find out how the vote was going in two offices.”

50 years ago: “In their closing session, members of the Colorado Hotel and Motel Assn. re-elected Earl Barker Jr. of Durango as president for another year.”

25 years ago: “It may feel much too early to be scraping frost off your windshield, but it’s not. The low of 35 degrees was a little lower than last year’s 37 but nowhere near the record low of 28, recorded in 1900.”
