And the West is History

A derailed locomotive sits on its side in this photo dated “possibly 1917,” part of the Kennith Logan Photo Collection.

100 years ago: “The Presbyterian ladies will give a supper at the manse. The proceeds to be used for renovating the manse for the occupancy of the new pastor. Remember the date and place, and bring your friends.”

75 years ago: “The biggest air show on the western slope of Colorado is being planned for Durango, to be held Oct. 9 at the local airport. The program of events will include thrills by the dozen.”

50 years ago: “To encourage a ‘back to church’ movement after the summer season, the First Baptist Church of Durango will conduct an all-church, all-family Bible conference. The general theme of the conference will be Making Men Whole.”

25 years ago: Tamarron – “Gov. Roy Romer didn’t paint a pretty picture for 500 members of special districts attending a statewide conference here. The Democratic governor, noted for his upbeat and optimistic speeches since being elected two years ago, told a standing-room-only audience that the state has to ‘bite the bullet’ and become more frugal to get out of the economic slump.”
