75 years ago: “In one of the best attended meetings of the San Juan Basin Press Association, 28 newspaper people gathered at Cortez as guests of H.H. Beaber, of the Cortez Sentinel, and D.F. Brown and C.D. Brown of the Montezuma Valley Journal.”
50 years ago: “Fort Lewis College was granted a one-year option for the purchase of 32.6 acres of land for expansion of the college facilities. The property comprises the present campground operated by the Junior Chamber of Commerce, and 10.7 acres of land west of the access road to the Hillcrest Golf Course, and now under lease to the Durango Municipal Recreation Corp.”
