100 years ago: “The Denver & Rio Grande is installing electric headlights on the tea kettles that haul the Eastern in and out of Durango, so the engineers can see the tracks. It gets dark early these days. The engines are being sent down to Alamosa to be equipped with the big shines.”
75 years ago: “Durango city librarians are busy preparing for children’s book week, Nov. 13-19. The slogan this year will be ‘New Books, New Worlds.’ There will be a special display of books in the children’s room at the Durango Library.”
50 years ago: This appeared in the section titled Girl About Town: “One of the most intriguing names in the Basin is that of MacDougall Coyote of Towaoc. Mr. and Mrs. Coyote became parents of a 7 pound, 5 ounce son at Southwest Memorial hospital Sunday. His name? Mark Anthony.”
25 years ago: “In the wake of the third major marijuana raid in La Plata County in less than a month, local law enforcement officials are putting pot growers on notice that more busts are forthcoming.”
