75 years ago: “The mine and mining committee of the Durango Chamber of Commerce will meet with the coal producers of this area. Purpose of the meeting is to organize a coal producers association in an effort to better the coal mining industry around Durango.”

50 years ago: “Officials at Fort Lewis College were notified that the institution has been accepted for full membership in the National Collegiate Athletic Assn. The school has been an associate member. ... Being an NCAA member gives a school increased respectability, especially when it comes to scheduling, and gives all athletes an opportunity for national honors.

25 years ago: “Because of a tower alignment problem, Purgatory Ski Resort has postponed the opening of chair lift 8 and added runs accessible from other chair lifts to accommodate skiers. ... Purgatory had previously announced it would open Chets, Sally’s Run and lower Legends, but because they are served by lift 8, they will remain closed.”
