100 years ago: “City Marshal McCartney walked 347 miles around town distributing notices to property owners to clean up their backyards and allies of ‘all ashes, tin cans, manure, and other rubbish, as required by ordinance. Ten days was given in most cases to get clean.”
75 years ago: “Durango police had few clues to the night-time robbery of the Dutch Lunch establishment here, in which approximately $300 in cash was taken.”
50 years ago: “For the first time in 1965, a D&RGW narrow gauge train pulled out of the Durango depot. There were no passengers – the regular season doesn’t start until June – but the crew which hoped to be able to clear the track beyond the tank near Ah! Wilderness. Included in the train were a tractor, a flanger, and two cabooses.”
25 years ago: “A 29,000-pound, 9-foot-tall magnet for Magnetic Resonance Imaging was moved into Mercy Medical Center and should be fully operational by the end of the month. MRI uses magnetic fields and radio waves to produce internal body images without using X-rays. This MRI will replace an older model and will be twice as strong to produce clearer pictures and faster scanning time.”
